  • Quick Icon Maker

    View Content

    1. What the tool does

Quick Icon Maker lets you build a 100 × 80 pixel PNG icon by stacking three layers:

    1. Background (image URL only)
    2. Main image (your upload, cropped to fit)
    3. Overlay (image URL only)

The result is shown live in the preview and can be downloaded with one click.

    2. Getting started – 3‑step workflow

    1. Choose a background
      • Paste an image URL into “Background Image URL” and press Load.
      • If the link is valid, the background appears.
    2. Add your main picture
      • Click Choose Main Image and select a file from your computer.
      • When the edit window opens, zoom + drag to frame the part you want, then press Apply Changes.
    3. Add an overlay (optional)
      • Paste an image URL into “Overlay Image URL” and press Load. The overlay sits on top.

Tip: PNGs with transparent areas work best for overlays.

    3. Editing the main image

    • Zoom slider – slide to resize the picture (0.1×‑3×).
    • Drag (mouse or finger) – move the image until the desired crop sits inside the dashed frame.
    • Apply Changes – saves the crop and closes the editor.
    • Cancel – discards edits and closes the editor.

Everything is non‑destructive—you can reopen the same upload and re‑crop at any time.

    4. Preview area controls

    ControlWhat it does
Day / Night switchChanges the preview canvas background so you can check how your icon looks on light vs dark themes.
Download Icon (PNG)Saves the composed icon as imvu_icon.png.

    5. Saving or re‑using settings

    • Export Settings – downloads a small .json file with the two URLs you used and the day/night preference.
    • Import Settings – load a previously‑saved .json file to rebuild the same scene.
    • The app also auto‑saves to your browser. When you return, your last state reloads automatically.

    6. Clearing everything

Click Clear All → confirm. This resets every field, removes images, and wipes the browser save, giving you a fresh workspace.

    7. File notes

    • Output: 100 × 80 px, PNG, transparent where no layer is present.
    • Main image crop: Always scaled to fill the full 100 × 80 frame, so avoid tiny source images—they may look blurry when enlarged.

    8. Troubleshooting

    • “Please enter a valid URL” – Make sure the link begins with http/https and points to a direct image file (.png, .jpg, .gif).
    • Nothing appears after loading – The host may block cross‑origin downloads. Re‑upload the image to ImgBB, Catbox, etc., and use that link.
    • “Selection outside image bounds” – Zoom out or re‑centre the image so the dashed crop frame sits inside the picture.
    • Blank download or red X – One of the layers failed to load. Press Clear All then add images back one by one to find the culprit.

    9. Keyboard & mouse quick‑tips

    • Mouse wheel – over the zoom slider for fine steps.
    • Hold‑drag in the crop editor to pan. Cursor changes to a hand when active.
    • Esc while in the modal closes it without saving.

    10. Best‑practice tips

    • Keep layer images the same aspect ratio (wide) to avoid stretching.
    • Use transparent PNGs for overlays and sparse main images for cleaner results.
    • Store favourite backgrounds/overlays in a text file; paste when needed and export settings for fast repeats.

Enjoy creating crisp icons in seconds!

    Guide

    1. Pick your picture
      • Click “Choose Image…” and select any image (a plain grey height-map works best).
      • The file name pops up underneath and the preview boxes fill automatically.
    2. Watch the magic
      • Six little panels appear: Original, Normal, Shininess, Displacement, AO, Shadow.
      • A live 3-D model shows the effect in real time.
    3. Tweak each map
      • Every panel has sliders or check-boxes: move them and the picture + 3-D view update instantly.
      • Example:
Normal → “Strength”, “Smoothing”, “Invert Y”.
Shininess → “Level”, “Contrast”, “Invert Source”.
(Hover the sliders if you forget what they do — tool-tips appear.)
    4. Play with the 3-D window
      • Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom.
      • “Plane / Sphere / Cube” swaps the shape.
      • “Default • 3-Point • Studio” switches light setups; the top ring slider spins the main light.
      • Hit Reset View to centre everything again.
    5. Grab your textures
      • Each map panel owns a Download button for single files.
      • Happy with all of them? Smash the green “Download All Maps (.zip)” button and you’ll get every PNG in one zip.
    6. Save & reuse settings
      • Export Settings → stores every slider value in a .json file.
      • Import Settings → reloads that file later so you don’t have to retweak.

    Quick tips

    • Use small, clean greyscale images for the sharpest normal maps.
    • The coloured message bar under the buttons tells you if something went wrong.
    • If your normal map looks “inside-out”, tick Invert Green (Y) Channel.
